Overlook Hotel: Write Or Die
Three days in October, locked together in an AirBnB in Marietta, GA (AKA “The Overlook Hotel”) was all it took form me and Addam to:
write a 16-page first draft for our upcoming short film “I Got A Dead Chick in the Trunk."
write our outline for our six-issue comic book series “The Caretaker”
and… take promotional photos for the “Movies From the Couch” podcast and for the OCP website.
We called it the “Overlook Hotel trip”, but, honestly, it really wasn’t that bad. No axe swinging or getting chased around a maze. We stayed at a normal townhouse. The digs were comfortable; the neighborhood was quiet, Figuring how we are going to actually shoot Dead Chick is a later issue. Our task for 3 days was to write the best story possible.
“Producer-Mode” was strictly not allowed, but the chance to visit Bob Shelley’s Special Effects was too enticing. We drove the 1-hour trip to Fayettville talk about hiring him and his team for the story’s climax.
Not gonna happen. Bob estimated $10K for realistic guns, sparks, glass, and bullet work. Looks like we gotta do this another way.
Meanwhile, I’m working hard to finish the website. I’ve found a bunch of our older videos and photos and have uploaded them. It was cool seeing Arlis and younger versions of ourselves. But now it’s time to upload… the new stuff!
